When I started learning jazz, I found it difficult to find satisfying arrangements of well-known standards. Learning to develop a lead sheet (melody and chord symbols) into a piano score was difficult, but I soon wanted to share my new found skill.

My arrangements have been very popular with students. They can learn how to voice chords, shape phrases, experiment with piano sonorities, etc, while enjoying the music of the great song-writers.
One of my students took his playing to a new level and won the cup for the ‘Best overall Jazz Performance’ at a local festival with my arrangement for Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk.

Round Midnight
AdvancedThis is my arrangement of Round Midnight
All The Things You Are
IntermediateAnother timeless standard from Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein. It’s quite an early arrangement of mine, utilising some tritone substitutions and an ending I borrowed from Eliane Elias on her album ‘Solos and Duets’ The introduction is my own.
Autumn Leaves
IntermediateAn arrangement I made in 2004 of this great standard.
