Gary Preston BA LRAM ARCM
Gary has been teaching piano and keyboard professionally since 1987. For 10 years until 2004 he taught at the specialist music school, Centre For Young Musicians (CYM) and currently teaches at St. Andrews Secondary School in South Croydon. A wide range of interests are catered for: classical, jazz, blues, pop, rock n’ roll. Several of his students have gone on to study music at university or music college.
As well as more advanced players, Gary enjoys teaching absolute beginners and has several classes of adult learners at the City Lit in London. In addition, he has a small number of private students whom he teaches at home in South Croydon, on a beautiful Petrof grand piano. Students sometimes choose to attend fortnightly, or just occasionally.
Fundamental to Gary’s teaching is the belief that one should learn to listen and play by ear, in addition to reading from the page. Lessons often include elements of improvisation and ear training, in addition to work on repertoire, etc.
Gary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, an ARCM performers’ diploma and an LRAM teachers’ diploma.
Fees: Lessons are charged at £32.50 per hour.
